She’s The Driver

Growing Up. My grandfather was a guitar player/band leader and my Aunty was a guitar teacher who gave me my first guitar at age five. This was a juxtaposition to home life, where my mother constantly played Nana Mouskouri albums, enjoyed easy listening radio and brief visits from my father yielded gifts like albums from The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and The Seekers. All could have been lost until I found a Rolling Stones single at a fete and discovered The Sex Pistols. Finally, I had something decent to play that guitar along with.

Your Band. She’s The Driver were originally a two-piece, with Steve (drums) and myself (Sean-guitar/vocals) having previously played in Melbourne band Violetine together. Bassist Joe Golotta thought we needed to expand the sound, and joined us in 2015 and has recorded our last two albums with us.

The Music You Make. We recorded our debut at an old school camp on the Hawkesbury River. Following this, we’ve completed four albums at our own purpose built studio in South Melbourne, called Black Garage Records. As a live act we are a bit rougher round the edges than our recordings, but sometimes you have to compensate polish for energy.

Music, Right Here, Right Now. To be honest, I’m not too sure how the music scene is anywhere at the moment. We seem to operate outside of it, just getting gigs with friends and through our label, and any spare time is spent selfishly in our own little bubble writing music and working with young bands.
