SHAPES!: Betty Taylor + Gnome

Shapes! Is a new series of gigs and workshops for teens (13 to 17 year-olds).

The second instalment of our music series Shapes! features Betty Taylor and Gnome. Betty Taylor is one of Australia’s rising indie sensations, blending heartfelt lyrics, dreamy harmonies and powerful live presence. They recently performed at Austin’s SXSW and have supported Beddy Rays, Matt Corby and Boy & Bear! Support is Frankston band ‘Gnome’ who are making a name for themselves selling out shows in their hometown and Melbourne.

Betty Taylor is the friend who holds your hand after your heart’s been broken. The band is made up of Sophie Patrick, whose indie hooks and sincere and often tongue in cheek lyrics are complemented by Kayla Smart (AKA Dorah Jacson)’s beautiful harmonies and wistful guitar riffs. Helping to strike this perfect balance between power and charm are Claire Chittick on bass and Katie Ishaque on drums.

From an open mic to a backyard party show 2 years ago, Betty Taylor has quickly become Australia’s newfound companions. Their debut single ‘Stallin’, produced by Aidan Hogg (known for G Flip, Jaguar Jonze, Hope D), premiered on triple J. It has already accumulated over 300,000 streams. Followed ups Glitter and Can’t Get Enough have seen top twenty most played on triple J. Their endearing live show presence has graced stages alongside acclaimed acts such as girl in red, Beddy Rays, Teenage Dads, Boy and Bear and The Rubens and recent standout performances at Groovin the Moo and NYE on the Hill.

Gnome is a high-energy rock’n’roll four-piece from Frankston, blending ’60s pop melodies with raw, raucous energy. Bursting onto Melbourne’s music scene, their electrifying live shows make them a must-see act on the rise.

Blending elements of hardcore, noise and outsider music, Naarm-based C.W.A. is fast, weird and ever changing – nothing compares. God Bless the C.W.A. (if you need more/less let me know!)
