“Soul-reggae sexual chocolate heaven.”
So, someone is walking past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?
“Oh dearie me, I think I’ve just found the meaning of life! I saw it in that lead singer’s eyes! Drink up!”
How long have you been gigging and writing?
“I’ve been writing and gigging for six years now under different ruses, having at one point been a winner on international online song competition website, songoftheyear.com. This new incarnation however, has been performing for just a few months now. It’s so fresh and so clean.”
What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?
“We had a terribly good time at (funnily enough) The Empress, where we played our first gig with this new lineup last November. We’re gonna take it up a notch or ten this Friday night.”
Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?
“Prince and the New Power Generation. On a basketball court. Or an indoor soccer one, preferably, to be honest. I’ll have to hire Charlie Murphy on backing vocals, though.”
What inspires or has influenced your music the most?
“I love the music of Michael Franti, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Jimi Hendrix and their ilk. And of course, I also gather a lot of inspiration from spicy late-night curries.”
What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?
“Release lame videos on Youtube apparently. I’m still gonna kick it old skool and keep releasing groove-heavy, honest music. And make some lame videos for Youtube.”
Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?
“Well, on Friday April 22 the single 20,000 Metres (how metric!) will be released on iTunes. Physical copies can be purchased at the gig, which will include a bad-ass reggae track called Utopia Street on it as well.”
Why should everyone come and see your band?
“For the free stuff. With every CD you’ll get a sexy little Reviver badge. It’ll make you even sexier and stuff. Oh, and for the three KICKARSE acts who will be there to entertain your sexy badge-wearing asses. Jo Dawson kicks it off, all delicate yet powerful, then the virtuoso funk/folk/soul musings of the supremely talented Simon Phillips Band, followed by your very own soul-reggae warrior, Reviver, backed by three of the hottest cats in town, Josh Poole, Andy Vollmer and Karl Willebrant.”
