Relive your teenage years with Haylee Deutrom’s But Daddy I Love Him

But Daddy I Love Him

A show for anyone who appreciates the power that teenage girls have over music fandom.

Haylee Deutrom is set to bring a blast from the past to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with her show But Daddy I Love Him. This autobiographical performance will transport you back to the year 1997 when Silverchair dropped Freak Show and teenage girls across the world were swooning over heartthrobs like Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Brad Pitt. Experience the nostalgia at The Carlton Club from March 29 to April 2.

Taking an intense lens on her formative years and teenage sexual awakening, But Daddy I Love Him focuses on the myopic intensity of navigating fandom as a teenage girl. Celebrating the traditions of buying every album, t-shirt, concert ticket and magazine featuring the whiff of an interview, But Daddy I Love Him highlights the cultural and economic power of teenage girls.

Who can forget the screaming crowds of Beatlemania, or the impact of the Spice Girls on pop culture in the 90s? Deutrom’s show invites you to relive those moments of intense fandom and explore what it means to be a teenage girl in a world that often dismisses their passions and emotions.

With witty storytelling and relatable humour, Deutrom will take you on a journey through the ups and downs of teenage love, from love hearts on pencil cases to fanny flutters at the sight of a wallet chain on your arm.

Grab your scrunchies and platform shoes and catch the show at The Carlton Club from March 29 to April 2. Grab tickets by heading here.
