I have loved REM for years without ever managing to see them live, so this swan song single is unexpectedly poignant. I know the kids don’t care, and they don’t really fit on commercial radio anymore, but they still write lovely songs. For all its adult contemporary feel and Bacharach-style string arrangements, We All Go Back to Where We Belong is still bittersweet and affecting.
