Band:

Whipped Cream Chargers

Define your genre in five words or less:

Post-Coital Punk. Dole-Wop.

How long have you been gigging and writing?

We’ve been playing together for about three years now. We started gigging quite early on and have played a fuckload of shows.

What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

One time Jeff and I played an honorary Chargers gig to about three-and-a-half-thousand people at a festival for the Durga Goddess in Birtamod, Nepal. It was the kind of thing where police officers ride the twirly cups with loaded shotguns. That was pretty great.

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

Isis, Apophis, and Osiris.

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

To me, ‘Success’ is the achievement of a particular desire, and being happy with that when it happens.

Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?

We are currently in the process of having our first album, Whip it Out!, pressed onto vinyl – it will be available at shows and by mail order in a month or two. We recorded it in two days in the basement of the now defunct 808 with Jaie Gonzalez and Dave Ackerman, and then took ages to mix it with Jaie at the now defunct Skylab. The mastering was done by Mikey Young in California. We all thank those guys a fuckload for their help.

Why should everyone come and see your band?

If you come you’ll know, and if you know you’ll come.

When are you playing live?

We are doing a residency at the Workers Club in Fitzroy on Monday nights this month, seven, fourteen, twenty-one, twenty-eight.
