One of our favourite gigs was supporting Bluejuice at the Corner Hotel in Richmond. We had come off a really bad show the week before and everyone was really low on confidence. It was one of those rock bottom shows where everyone has a hard look at themselves afterward. And after overanalyzing all week and hating yourselves you just want to go crazy. So the next week we went out possessed before blueJuice and made amends. We ended up drinking most of Bluejuice’s rider back stage afterwards in celebration, but they were really good guys and didn’t mind. They even gave us some great advice. The Parklife and Hot BBQ festival shows were also fun filled days.
Everyone in the band is completely different in taste. Our bass player Lachie gets white line fever (and likes using football analogies) so every week is a show down for him.
Again, we all have completely different taste in music. So it’s not necessarily all of our favourite bands that we are influenced by, but the ones that we collectively love. And it’s not so much that we influence them, it’s more the music we listen to before and after we have sessions. I’d say Crowded House, The Beatles, The Strokes, Foo Fighters, Radio Head and Kings of Leon are all common ground. And about 5,000 others.
It’s hard for bands now. But we haven’t really known anything different, so you can’t miss what you’ve never had. There are lots of things aside from the music, which can make you successful. Mainly organization, promotion and money. But our main concern as a band is to have that feeling you get when something you’ve created is exactly how you thought it would be. That’s what we are in it for.
We have a bunch of songs on our Facebook fan page which are available for free download. We have recorded one ep, which is also available, but in limited release. At the moment we aren’t really focused on albums, they cost too much and no one really listens to the whole thing anyway. At this stage we are working with as many producers as possible and playing lot’s of different styles, before we decide on something more concrete. We have a new single coming out in the next month called ‘What are you waiting for’, by British producers DNR music in Sydney.
We have built a really good reputation up in Melbourne for our live show. We all sing and all carry on a bit, but work really well with our opposing personalities. We have played heaps of venues to big crowds, and made them all dance. I think it’s the fact that we don’t really have a thing that’s made us successful. We don’t really do anything, except for play music and be ourselves. Our best reviews have called us ‘charming’ and ‘unpretentious’. I think most of the girls come for our drummer Carey.
