New Jersey punks Night Birds have announced the release of a new 7” Who Killed Mike Hunchback? Due out October 7 on Fat Wreck Chords. In a Facebook post the band has explained the background of the writing and recording: “Mike Hunchback was Night Birds’ guitarist when the band started, before PJ Russo took over. Our parting of ways was very amicable and we remain close pals. Mike continues to reside in Brooklyn, NY, runs a rad record shop, and plays in a band called Screeching Weasel. These are some demos we recorded in preparation for some of our early records. Two of these tracks are especially interesting, in my opinion, because they contain Mike playing everything and even singing on a pair of tunes he had written for the band.”
Luca Brasi’s shows around the country have been going great off the back of the recently released By a Thread, however the band has experienced some crowd troubles at their recent Sydney show. In a Facebook post the band has explained:
“Hi all. Firstly these shows have been absolutely ridiculous and amazing and we’re totally blown away and humbled, thank you all so much. Unfortunately an incident in Sydney last night has completely overshadowed this positivity. Two good mates of ours were left distraught after a certain piece of shit male in the audience decided that their bodies were his property in the pit. We play shows because we love it, people come to these shows to enjoy the music, everyone has the right to be safe and other people’s bodies ARE NOT YOUR PROPERTY. Completely and utterly horrified and dismayed, if you want to come to see us play, keep your hands to your fucking self, it is NOT HARD TO DO. If you believe it is your right as a male to do as you please, you are NOT WELCOME HERE”.
