Criminally underrated mainstay in the Melbourne underground, Popolice opens Would You Believe with an irresistible flurry of guitar pop punches, delivering a vocal incantation like an antipodean Malkmus. Everything hits the spot nicely, harnessing a tonal swell that lifts the syncopated elements to a higher level. I’m tempted to say that this feels like a gem from another era, but when it comes down to it, this is a timeless splendour.
