Pop-up globe to bring Shakespeare to Sydney

The world’s first full-scale replica of Shakespeare’s iconic Globe Theatre is coming to Sydney this year, offering Australian’s the opportunity to see Shakespeare’s masterpieces performed in the space they were originally written for (almost). For those of us who can’t afford the plane ticket visit the real Globe Theatre, this is as close as you can get without leaving home.

Drawing audiences of more than 450,000 people in just two years, the project is a true marvel of its time. For those of us who were bombarded with Shakespeare in high school, the replica Globe Theatre is set to be an incredibly nostalgic and transformative experience, shutting from our minds the experience of Shakespeare read in monotone form by a bunch of 14-year-old classmates and replacing it with an authentic vision of theatre the way it was intended.

Pop-Up Globe is a three-story, 16-sided, 900-person capacity theatre which drew an audience of 150,000 in its Melbourne appearance. For Sydney, it will bring a travelling festival of critically acclaimed productions which will be announced in the coming weeks.
