POOF DOOF: Melbourne’s biggest queer club just launched its own label

Words by staff writer

POOF DOOF has officially launched a record label, and it marks the biggest shift in the brand's 15-year history.

The Melbourne-born queer nightclub and events brand is moving into recorded music with POOF DOOF Records, a queer-led imprint built to create pathways for artists from the club to the global stage. The label’s debut release comes from Jimi The Kween, whose forthcoming single All I Need serves as the opening chapter for both artist and label.

POOF DOOF Records won’t be tied to a single sound. The catalogue will span house, techno and artist-led pop, connected not by genre but by a queer creative perspective. The label will initially accept submissions via POOF DOOF’s digital platforms before evolving into a more traditional A&R model as the roster grows.

Since launching in Melbourne in 2011, POOF DOOF has grown into one of Australia’s most recognisable queer nightlife brands, producing thousands of events across Australia, Europe, Asia and the United States. The club has hosted sets from Honey Dijon, Pabllo Vittar, Carl Cox, Purple Disco Machine, Claptone and Melanie C, and delivered festival takeovers at Beyond The Valley, Splendour in the Grass, World Pride and Sydney Mardi Gras.

The label has been designed to address what POOF DOOF describes as a longstanding gap in the music industry: accessible, authentic pathways for queer artists to move from creation to release to live performance. By leveraging the brand’s established global event network, POOF DOOF Records offers something few labels can — a direct connection between new music and existing dancefloors where artists can build audiences in real time.

POOF DOOF Records will focus on Australian talent first, with plans to expand internationally in response to demand. The label’s website is now live at poofdoofrecords.com, and artists can submit music via the platform.
