If the lads from Parquet Courts are to be believed, spending Mardi Gras in New Orleans seems like a whole lot of fun.
The American rock band are about to drop a brand new album, and their lead single of the same name – ‘Wide Awake’ – is a percussion-heavy joyous celebration of awakeness, that will almost certainly encourage some foot-tapping, at the very least.
The song’s lyrical portion mostly involves an upbeat vocalist repeatedly shouting “I’m wide awake”, and then there’s some pretty sweet soccer-coach-esque, melodic whistle-blowing. Once the guitar riff kicks in, you’re ready to get your glad rags on and head out the door to Mardi Gras yourself. The clip is a colourful masterpiece: in it’s purest form it’s just four grown men partying hard in matching outfits.
The band like to describe this upcoming album as a celebration of individuality, freshness and collectivism. If this first single is anything to go by, this will be an album that gets everybody up to dance.
