Monstrous sounds of bass and drums combined with vocal chants take centre stage in an introduction that’s filled with suspense. Unlike the first two releases from Noel Gallagher’s post-Oasis project, on album number three he treads new ground and opts for experimental sounds that hit the mark.
‘Holy Mountain’draws a glam rock-esque plateau of sound that conjures an image of T-Rex, David Bowie and Ricky Martin collaborating in the studio. Add to the mix a cheeky bit of tin whistle and you’ve got yourself a rollicking four-minute pop track. Teaming up with David Holmes – who worked on the soundtrack to Ocean’s Eleven and Logan Lucky – this album hits the mark both instrumentally and vocally.
From the funky electric piano in ‘Keep on Reaching’to the country-esque ‘If Love Is The Law’, Liam and Noel have both produced two of the best releases of the year and they contrast each other perfectly.
