Having conquered Hollywood, Australian writer and producer of NCIS Shane Brennan is returning home for the National Screenwriters’ Conference at the start of next year.

Executive Producer of NCIS, and Creator and Executive Producer of NCIS: Los Angeles, Australian screenwriter Shane Brennan is returning home for the Australian Writers’ Guild National Screenwriters’ Conference that will take place on Phillip Island from February 16-18 2011.

Brennan is the first Australian to run a prime time US Network television series, and he is also one of only a handful of writers to ever run two network television dramas at the same time.

NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles are the number one and number two scripted dramas on American television, and so it is very exciting for the Australian Writers’ Guild to have Brennan in attendance.

The National Screenwriters’ Conference will bring together leading local and international screenwriters and industry professionals, to develop creative and commercial partnerships, analyse industry developments and foster creativity and innovation.

The theme for this year is Just Shoot Me: Getting the Script on the Screen, and it is a must for every writer in the television, film and gaming industry, and for those who want to break into the industry. The three-day conference will be packed to the brim with masterclasses, including one with Shane Brennan (exclusively for full members of the AWG), panel discussions and networking opportunities with top industry identities in attendance.

Another featured guest is Academy Award nominee Nicholas Meyer, who has written scripts such as The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, Sommersby, starring Richard Gere and Jodie Foster, and The Informant, for which he received the PEN Award for best teleplay. He also wrote and directed the classic time-travel thriller, Time After Time, starring Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells.

Other big names on the bill include David Williamson AO, Cracker’s Jimmy McGovern, John Collee of Happy Feet fame and Jan Sardi (Shine, Mao’s Last Dancer, The Notebook).

"Following the success of last year’s conference, the 2011 NSC will place Australian screenwriters where they belong, at the heart of the industry," says Australian Writers’ Guild President, Tim Pye.

The conference will feature sessions such as: What Women Want, With A Little Help From My Friends: Alternative Funding, Writing For An International Market: An Australian Voice With A Foreign Accent, Ten Ways To F**K Up A Perfectly Good Comedy, and Cross-Dressing Is Fun!: Writing Multi-Platform.
