The Victorian government has revealed designs for a $275 million expansion of Austin Hospital's emergency department in Melbourne's northeast.
The ambitious project, which has already broken ground, will boost the hospital’s capacity by 30,000 emergency patients annually through a state-of-the-art three-level facility. The development includes 29 additional emergency treatment spaces, alongside upgrades to the short stay unit and improved clinical administration areas.
Taking cues from nature, the architectural plans showcase organic forms and natural materials throughout the new emergency department. This thoughtful approach aims to create a calming atmosphere in what can be an inherently stressful environment, while maintaining optimal safety standards for medical staff.
