Welcome to Dental Plan 2023.

Melbourne indie punk/rock band Dental Plan make a triumphant return on Wednesday, October 18 with Raw Nerve, their first piece of new music in over two years. The song, the title track from their upcoming debut album, sees the band showcasing their punk roots with a strong sense of melody and punchy sing-along choruses.

Influenced by the bands of yesteryear, Dental Plan’s songwriting harks back to the glory years of ‘90s punk and alt-rock while adding a modern twist. It’s the classic punk ethos of iconic names like Jawbreaker, The Replacements, and Superchunk, filtered through the modern lens of contemporary acts such as Violent Soho, The Bronx, and Jeff Rosenstock.

“This is probably the most melodic punk rock track on the record,” says vocalist/songwriter Niam Hegarty. “I’m excited for everyone to check it out and to see the overall eclectic record we’ve come up with.

“This one had the working title of Live & Let Die Part 3, but since Paul McCartney’s in town this weekend we thought we’d go with Raw Nerve.”

Since first forming in 2018, Dental Plan have amassed a loyal fanbase of dedicated followers. Their 2018 self-titled EP was followed in 2019 with a single which saw the group working with Alicia Bognanno from Sub Pop indie darlings Bully.

In 2021, the group returned with the brutal single Hole In Me, seeing them enter early ‘90s grunge territory. Paired with a brutal horror-themed video that didn’t hold back on the gore and mayhem, the thunderous riffs and throat-shredding vocals saw Dental Plan named by Rolling Stone Australia as a band to watch.

Dental Plan will support the release of Raw Nerve with a high-energy launch show at The Tote in Melbourne on Friday, October 20, joined by Sandy Dish, Long Hours, You Legends, and The Degenerated.
