Melbourne’s Voldy showcases the extraordinary talent that exists within the local scene; ‘Lost’ features world-class production, instrumentals and vocal work – it’s just an incredibly easy, enjoyable listen.

‘Lost’ is the soul searing, funk-infused second instalment from South African born, Melbourne based artist Voldy that’s set to debut on Friday, June 3.

He’s quite possibly the next big thing to come out of Melbourne’s burgeoning hip-hop scene. He’s just finished opening for internet sensation Mason Dane, who now in turn goes off to support US megastar T-Pain on his US tour, and Voldy’s new single gives fans a taste of what to expect from the artist’s upcoming EP, Solplay Vol 1 due for release later this year. If ‘Lost’ is anything to go by, we’re expecting big things.

Voldy has teamed up again with Michael Elia (Kaiit, Adrian Eagle) and Leyvi in the producer’s seat and engineer Aman Bayalty (Goldlink, Tones and I, Jerome Farrah), his collaborators on ‘Virus. Australian vocalist and former finalist on The Voice, Belle Bangard, who is currently on tour with Tones and I, also lends her vocals to the track.

It’s easy to tell why it all sounds so effortless given the level of talent that’s involved in this one, what may be surprising to some is just how experienced and natural Voldy sounds among the prestigious production team. Us, however, well…we’ve been fans of Voldy for some time.

Introducing VOLDY, the exciting new rapper set to explode on the Melbourne music scene

Voldy describes ‘Lost’  as a “deep dive into the murky waters of abandonment, betrayal and loneliness” after falling for the false promises made by a significant other. Voldy is in his element on this track, unapologetic and authentic in his musings about life, love and loss. It’s both ‘Lost’ in the subtle uncertainties that reveal themselves in Voldy’s introspective lyrics, but also in the confronting and powerful nature of Voldy’s instructions – the “get lost” that reinstills his well-deserved confidence.

The whole thing is juxtaposed by an up-tempo, toe tapping beat, Voldy’s raw songwriting talent is on display as he takes listeners on a redemptive journey through his melodic tone and steady cadence. “This is more than a break up record”, Voldy notes. “This track explores how you feel completely lost without the person who made you feel complete. No one really talks about what it’s like to lose someone beyond just feeling heart broken. I go on to explain why I guard my heart from not just women but people in general.”

The first single off Voldy’s EP has received national and local airplay across triple j’s Home & Hosed, FBI Radio’s Radar Sounds and PBS Radio. Voldy is releasing music through ON3 Studio, a new music development and discovery collective based in Melbourne. ON3 Studio is a community of diverse, like-minded individuals and functions as a creative incubator, artist development hub and youth education program.
