Melbourne Techno Collective are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a huge birthday bash on February 25 at New Guernica.
The story goes that all the way back in 2002, five mates – Sam, Jay, Peter, Craig and Matt – first united to start holding techno parties, celebrating the local Melbourne scene and the talent that’s flourished so evidently over the past two decades.
The Melbourne Techno Collective is a group of DJs and producers that formed to create new outlets to spread the music they loved.

They’ve always had a local focus, but that hasn’t prevented them bringing out the likes of Steve Rachmad, Nick Höppner, Deetron, Shifted, Sigha, Justin Berkovi, Ignition Technician, John Selway, Mike Humphries, Technasia, Kazu Kimura, Detroit Techno Militia, Echoplex & Cave to Melbourne audiences over that timeframe.
It’s no small feat to retain a tight-knit group formed around partying and electronic music for 20 years, so MTC are holding five parties this year to celebrate the momentous occasion.
The first of which is kicking off at the group’s new homebase, a newly-relocated New Guernica (now at 64 Smith St, Collingwood) on February 25, featuring a stellar lineup of old and new favourites.
DJ Kiti, Fergus Sweetland, D-Rex, NUR, büro, Death of Socrates, Jay Reading, Peter Baker, Craig McWhinney and Matt Radovich are all taking to the decks, with pre-sale tickets available for just $10 until they sell out. More tickets will be available on the doors, which are open from 9pm til 4am.
