M-Phazes Talks About ARIA Win

M-Phazes (Mark Landon) had an exclusive chat to Beat.com.au in the wake of his ARIA win!

M-Phazes album Good Gracious beat releases from Bliss N Esso, Lowrider, Space Invadas, and Urthboy to take out the ARIA for best Urban album. Landon spoke to Beat.com.au about the win:

Who was the first person you called when you found out?

Called Dad, then Mum obviously.

Explain what it it means to you and Australian Hip Hop?

I feel its a great thing because I had so many people involved on that album, and I feel the album is a good representation of where Australian Hip Hop is at right now, and since the album dropped our music has gotten better which is exciting! The artists and musicians who worked on the songs with me made the album what it is so this ARIA is theirs also.

Do you hate the word ‘Urban’?

It’s not that I hate the word, it’s like, House artists probably don’t like being put into categories with Trance artists under the "Dance" category.  And when Hip Hop artists are put into the same category as r&b, which in my eyes is totally different forms of music, then labelled "Urban" it’s just frustrating, I feel like we have enough quality releases to have our own "Hip-Hop" category.  But it’s not a big deal, just something that bugs me now and then.
