M-Phazes & Emilio Rojas: Phaze One

The difficulties involved in putting together a record across long distances are obviously fewer than ever, but the synergy between Phazes and Rojas over such distances is still something to marvel. These guys know each others strengths, and they play to them beautifully. Not only do they sound like they’ve been working together for years, they’ve taken the time to really structure the album in a way others in their position haven’t. They’re not working on individual tracks, but also making a genuine effort to address how they’ll all fit together and avoid filler. There’s a slightly nostalgic tone to it all too. The prevalence of melodic backing vocals throughout probably won’t sit well with some, for others, the combination of Phazes smooth production and Rojas relaxed delivery will probably have them feeling like they’re on a trip straight back to 1994.
