Righto -what’s it all about?
I’ve always loved the art of caricature and taking the piss out of people and thought The Old Bar would be a great place to house an exhibition about musicians. It will be good to pay homage to these great artists.
What sort of tunes influenced you into putting together the event?
Old timey blues, country, swing, jazz, ’50s rock’n’roll and ’60s garage punk. Anything raw where humanity comes through untainted by sophistication.
Do you believe cartoons/comics can make a difference in the world?
Yes I think so. They have in the past. They shone light on corruption and questioned the actions of those in power. That is probably why they aren’t very popular now. We now just accept things – we don’t question the reasoning behind the world.
What do you hope to achieve with the event?
A cool million in one dollar coins.
What would you recommend as the best activity to pursue whilst the event is happening?
Beer swilling, joke telling, laughing and looking at drawings. It’ll be a fun night!
Well, give us the deets.
The Merlocs are opening the show, Midnight Woolf will play two sets and there will be original art for sale. Thursday August 4 at The Old Bar in Fitzroy. Doors at 7:30pm.
