Leaps and Bounds Music Fest drops a few more hints

Yarra’s annual music festival is back, and it’s pretty stellar. Leaps and Bounds is spread out all across the Yarra area, and enables venue bookers to put on some of the best and most diverse gigs around. It’s back for 2018, and the city is definitely going to be litty – the fest has unveiled more of its 2018 lineup.

Dijok is going to be part of Girls To The Front, Laundry Bar’s event which pushes female, home-grown hip hop and rap to the fore of the scene. Anna Scionti will headline The Rainbow, and Emilee South is repping Femmes On Fire at The Gem and Bar Open.

Women of Country is hitting up The Standard, and Our Ting is an all-ages gig featuring the talent of Lady Banton, along with all the best and newest grime, hip hop, trap, and afrobeat.

Queering the Pitch: Music from Beyond the Binary will be curated by Mama Alto, and will be hosted by Melbourne’s fave queer bookstore, Hares and Hyenas. Meanwhile, The Old Bar will host Queer Here.

As always, Leaps and Bounds’ outdoor event, Smith Street Dreaming, will be taking over Fitzroy, and will present the likes of MC Leila Gurruwiwi, Dave Arden & Band, Benny Walker, and Birdz, amongst others.

These are only a selection of the events on offer at this year’s Leaps and Bounds Music Festival, taking over YarraCity from Friday 13 July to Sunday 22 July. After an explosion of positive governmental support for the Melbourne music scene, venues such as Collingwood Arts Precinct will host a myriad of events.
