Kanye West: slavery “sounds like a choice”

yezzzzzzz.jpg

Kanye West is going through some shit right now.

After taking to Twitter to vocally support Donald Trump, strap on a Make America Great Again hat, and lose millions of followers in the process — he’s now weighed in on another topic: slavery.

Kanye popped into the most cerebral of all forums — TMZ — to drop this pearl of wisdom.

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years … For 400 years? That sounds like a choice.”

West then capped it off with this:

“You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.”

Even for TMZ (the bastion of all things morally just that they are) this was a step too far. An employee publically called Yeezy out for it.

“While you are making music and being an artist and living the life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives,” said TMZ employee/gossip enthusiast Van Lathan. “We have to deal with the marginalisation that’s come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was a choice.”

It all amounts to something that we’ve been thinking for a while: Kanye has cooked it.

West later took to Twitter to clarify his remarks.

“Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved.”

I miss the old Kanye.
