Footscray is gearing up for a joyful and family-friendly afternoon of music and entertainment as the Creative West project takes over the town.

Happening on Saturday, April 6, next to Footscray Library, this event promises to be a dazzling display of talent and creativity, headlined by none other than Aussie rock legend Jen Cloher and the energetic T’HONI.

As well as the music, the event will also feature puppet shows, dance and circus performers, shining a light on the rich and diverse talent that comes out of Melbourne’s west.

“Footscray has already established itself as the creative hub of the West, but it lacks the infrastructure that would allow creative industries to truly thrive. Council is advocating for Creative West – a new library, performance venue, green space, and place of culture and innovation for the community,” says Mayor Cr Cuc Lam.

The Creative West project, of which this showcase is a part, addresses a gap in the region’s cultural landscape. With only one performing arts theatre that can seat over 500 people in Melbourne’s greater western region, the need for more platforms for performers and larger audiences is evident, especially considering the projected population growth by 2036.

This showcase will give residents and visitors a taste of what’s to come in the Creative West project. It’ll feature an exciting mix of performances and arts, including crafts for the kids, feminist works by Women’s Circus, theatre by Snuff Puppets and dance by L2R Dance.

The highlight of the showcase will undoubtedly be the performances by J Award winner Jen Cloher and her talented five-piece band, alongside the dynamic Māori cultural group T’HONI and the Greekcore artists and producer Nikodimos and his Orchestra. Their presence adds a unique flavour to the event, showcasing the diversity and richness of talent within Footscray’s artistic community.

“Footscray’s creative journey is only just beginning, don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of it. Head to the Footscray Library car park from 2:30pm to 6pm on Saturday 6 April to explore the countless benefits our community stands to gain through the establishment of Creative West.”
