Friday May 19 is the official release date for Krafty Kuts & Dynamite MC’s third studio album All 4 Corners. The album features rappers and musical inspiration from all over the globe. This sound concept has been done before, but international collaborations are always a treat.

Unreleased song, Can I Get features Melbourne MC Ivan Ooze. He has worked with Ghostface Killah in the past on a track called Fire. Their rap styles meshed really well together on the track. It will be interesting to see how Ooze adjusts his style (if at all) to Krufty Kuts beats. Ooze has already proved he can handle international influences without losing his own style, so it’s probably going to sound pretty good.

For those interested in the cultural aspect of hip hop, Emmanuel Jal is doing an event with The School of Life Melbourne. Emmanuel Jal was born in the ‘80s but can’t remember the exact year of his birth. It is a little hard to keep track of a birth certificate when you are born into the life of a Sudanese child soldier.

From his very chaotic and violent beginnings, Jal has become a hip hop artist, an actor, and a peace ambassador. He’s delivered speeches all over the globe, speaking at prisons, at community centres, has addressed the UN, delivered speeches in U.S Congress, along with shows he has performed for Nelson Mandela and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He’ll share stories and his views on music on the Monday April 3 at the National Gallery of Victoria.

R&B fans have a date to mark in the calendar. Kehlani has announced an Australian tour. She is appearing at 170 Russell, on the Sunday August 27. Tickets will be on sale to the general public on Thursday March 23. She will be playing songs from her album SweetSexySavage.

Rubix Warehouse are hosting their monthly event All You Can Spit on Friday March 31. Last month’s event had Scribe headline, this month it is kingpins,Mantra and Grey Ghost. A whole heap of other rappers will be performing, includingInfamous One Six, Kudazi, Anabar, and T-bone. Plus there are all your low-key heroes like Mexe, Ron Browz, & Jamima Jonez kicking off the event and getting the rhymes going. It’s a 9pm start.

Rawlab Radio are presenting a show at Grumpy’son Friday April 14. It will feature Sammy Scissors,Retayner, and Grizzly Bastard. All of them are key rhymers and familiar faces in the underground and battle rap scenes around Melbourne. This is definitely a show for you if you aren’t a fan of commercial rap or R&B.  Sammy Scissors album Till Death Arrives has one of the best collaboration tracks on it in Versatile Styles. It’s a good track to show what to expect. Entry is only $5 and all proceeds are going to Heartfelt.org.au. Doors open at 8pm.
