Funk’n’Fest is regional Victoria’s new summer festival

Funk’n’Fest

The fresh regional festival Funk’n’Fest is bringing some of Victoria's best Funk, Soul and RnB artists to Ballarat on Sunday February 20, 2022.

Victoria has a new festival to look forward to in the summer of next year as Ballarat Funk’n’Fest has announced its first-ever run, bringing along a swathe of incredible Australian talent.

Created by local festival organiser Ric Dexter – the man behind the Ballarat Beer Festival – the one-day event is set to take place at the easily accessible and beautiful Northern Gardens (the corner of Zoo and Nursery Drives) in February, transforming the gardens into a place to fulfil all your funk, soul and RnB desires.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

With music at its heart, there will be something to suit a wide range of groovy tastes at this brand-new event, which actually takes place the day after the Ballarat Beer Festival.

Heading to the inaugural Funk’n’Fest is Australia’s queen of soul Kylie Auldist – an artist who has been pleasantly blessing our ears and warming our souls for the past decade with the groovy tracks and her radiating aura. Often recognised as the voice behind the greatest soul/funk act The Bamboos and the monster summer anthem ‘This Girl’ by Kungs vs Cookin’, Auldist’s sublime, groovy and soulful vocals have broken charts across the world, making this upcoming performance a dance party waiting to happen.

Joining Auldist, the event will also host the likes of Australia’s premier collective of soulful artists Women Of Soul; Melbourne soul outfit Mayfield – fronted by vocal powerhouse, Carla Troiano; Melbourne funk juggernaut Lake Minnetonka; and Moreland City Soul Revue, a unique band comprised of some of the city’s finest players, who have individually, and collectively, shared the stage with many Australian music legends.

We’re already preppin’ our dancing shoes – this will be a festival of absolute groovin’ by the looks of that lineup.

Providing the region with music that has a genuine way of getting listeners in a good mood, Funk’n’Fest will be rounded out with delicious digestible delights from local food trucks, a beautifully bountiful collection of independent brewers on-site as well as a slew of regional wines to complete the day in the chilled and shady North Gardens next to Ballarat’s Botanical gardens and Lake Wendouree.

General admission tickets are just $35 while a VIP ticket will set you back $55, getting you access to reserved tables undercover. If you feel like making a weekend of it, you can purchase a ‘Party Time’ ticket that gets you admission to the Ballarat Beer Festival on the Saturday and Funk’n’Fest on the Sunday.

Mark the dates, book your AirBnB and prepare to soak up the summer sun with an afternoon of disco, funk, soul and R&B.

It all goes down at Ballarat’s North Garden on Sunday, February 20. Tickets are on sale now.
