Today we're spotlighting four killer local Melbourne rock acts to check out if you like your music served in a garage with some psychedelics.
Melbourne’s rock, garage and psych scene is alive and kicking goals at the moment, even if the local venues who support them are still being fucked by COVID.
All four of these amazing local acts were supposed to play at the Brunswick Ballroom this Friday for Plebfest, which we were very excited for before it got the noose at the last minute, so we thought we’d still give them all a shout out. Their Spotify deets are linked below, give them all a listen if you know what’s good for ya.

1. Zombeaches
With a strong garage rock sound developed over more than five years of playing very sweaty and often packed Melbourne venues, the local five-piece band offer commanding vocals and a very solid reputation for banging live performances.
Zombeaches are especially ripe for the picking for Melbourne rock fans after the release of their very palatable 2020 album Cheers For The Future, which built on the brilliant guitar mastery of their 2016 Celebrate EP and the general sickness of tracks like ‘I Wonder If Napalm Tickles At First?’.
Plebs
The plebian hosts of Plebfest have stepped it up a gear since their 2017 Adelaide album with their latest EP, 2020’s Work. They mix it up nicely between powerful yelled vocals and their more lackadaisical surfy earlier work.
They’re just as much fun as Zombeaches, writing songs about “getting screamed at by homeless people on Victoria street” and other relatable shit. They also have a song called ‘Give Me Back My Son’. Just listen.
Testa Di Cazzo
Testa Di Cazzo dropped off our horizons after releasing two singles in 2019 only to return with a Bellissimo latest single that’s rocketed them back into our collective consciousness.
They still only have three tracks out, but they’re a powerful act with stellar vocals, and their latest single ‘Flat Circle’ is a really impressive cathartic explosion. They might pack a few surprises if you can get in to see them live somewhere.
BIFF
BIFF bring the psych elements, some very catchy distorted riffs that herald back to the 70s metal classics and track names like ‘Spiritual Distorted Capitalism’ to go with their snarling Aussie nasaly vocals. Great guitars. It’s all good stuff.
