Power, Corruption and Lies – New Order
We feel like every band who tries post-punk is in some way ripping off what was accomplished between Joy Division and New Order. This album is a standout, capturing the sound in probably its strongest but also most diverse form. Bloody 10/10.

Disintegration – The Cure
Post-punk purists might turn their heads as this occupied a lot more digital/synthy goth genres, but that’s the plebs caveat, which we most graciously take on board. The moods and emotions that some of these tracks evoke are super influential, and taking cues from the vocal styles was formative for the band.

Juju – Siouxsie and the Banshees
Did someone say SPELLLLBOUUUWNNND??
A great album, and it really clamps down on that spooky goth crossover that was always intermingling with the post-punk movement. The cabaret of it all is very close to home in our songwriting.
Listen to: ‘Spellbound’
From Her To Eternity – Nick Cave
Two of us are Nick Cave fanatics and have always revered his ability to move through genres, but this album (and the title track particularly) are fantastic. Then again, so is everything Nick Cave does. Guilty fanboys in the JH camp.
Highlight: ‘From Her To Eternity’
Unknown Pleasures – Joy Division
Obviously the ‘post-punk starter pack’ album. Nothing can be said that hasn’t been said before.
Highlight: ‘Shadowplay’
Honourable Mention:
War – U2
Not a band exactly revered as they once were, their discography gets stronger the further back you wind the clock. This is one such release; bridging pop and politics with post-punk vibes in a lot of the rhythm. The man himself, Bono, has even admitted they just wanted to be Joy Division during this time. We can pay that, and this album.
Highlight: ‘New Years Day’
