Just when you think festival season is over Freedom Time have announced a winter edition of their outdoor party at Coburg Velodrome. Musical rewards for braving the cold on Saturday June 3 are DJ Harvey, Kim Ann Foxman and a killer lineup of locals. Shit yeah.
This Friday April 28, promoters Alter and Konnekt’d are collaborating to present German techno producer/DJ Monoloc at New Guernica. Toeing the lines between raw and slick, uplifting, ambient and melancholic, he’s put out a long list of releases since 2008, the latest being his second album, the brooding and atmospheric The Untold Way, out now on Rodhad’s label; Dystopian Records. On support duties is PWD, DJ Kiti, Heath Kantor, Laura King, Leeroid, Hyper Binary, Xander and Jackson Ruan. Kicks off at 10pm.
Also on Friday, Untitled is back after a hiatus with Lobster Theremin alumni Route 8 from Budapest and local lad Daze, both here after extensive European tours. Route 8 will be opening the night with a muscular live set of hardware heavy, improvisational techno. Route 8 had an interesting 2016, having his gear stolen in Detroit only to have it found by an old lady who miraculously managed to track down Route 8 and get in contact two weeks later.
Daze has been exploring higher BPM electro and room shaking techno lately, an evolution of his older lo-fi housier sound. Having reportedly pulled off a Berghain set for the ages recently, he should be in fine form for the night. Rounding out the lineup is Roza Terenzi, Rudolf C and Shedbug. Kicks off at midnight.
On Saturday, Inner Varnika have announced the Inner Varnika Decompression at the Gasometer, featuring the mysterious underground DIY party kings themselves: Sex Tags (Sotofett and Fett Burger). This’ll be absolutely bonkers, get in early if you’re committed to getting in on this.
On Saturday April 28, the Resistance Restraint and Steeplejack crews are throwing down at The Sub Club in the city. Local legend and A Colourful Storm label head Moopie is leading the charge. His permanent presence on Melbourne club night lineups combined with his eclectic taste spanning seemingly infinite genres and eras has garnered him a solid reputation. Also on board for the night are live sets from Nerve & Sow Discord and Hot Rod & The Burnouts which should be something special, as well as DJ sets from crate digger extraordinaire Jess Sneddon and L.G.H (Ham and Harold).
