A forthcoming Willy Wonka origin story has been in the works since 2016, helmed by producers who spearheaded the Harry Potter franchsie. Now the project is one step closer to seeing the light of day, with Waner Bros. studios shortlisting Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling and Erza Miller to play the iconic candyman.
Donald Glover would have to be our pick for the role, with his recent turn in Solo proving his talent in a leading role.
Meanwhile, Gosling already enjoys a strong relationship with Waner Bros., starring in a range of films from Blade Runner 2049 to The Nice Guys.
Time will tell for who lands the role. In the interim, we can enjoy the thought of any of these actors strapping on Wonka’s purple top hat.
