The two former African refugees Momo and Azmarino have been moving closer to a crossover in the past few years, becoming festival favourites and landing supports slots to high profile international acts as Bruno Mars, Tinie Tempah, B.o.B., Lupe Fiasco and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Their star studded second album Pocket Full Of Dreams from last year drew great acclaim while fellow Footscray citizens, the Western Bulldogs, chose Running It as the official campaign theme song of their 2013 season.
Niche Agency founder Huw Araniego-Ellis told Beat, “They’ve always impressed me, especially on the Macklemore when they ripped it apart. Their music is very diverse. It’s easy to pitch them to festivals when their hip hop also has elements of pop, and world, and electro.”
Niche is working with their record label Illusive on getting the duo on some high profile tours over the summer.
Momo and Azmarino were born in Africa but arrived in Australia through different experiences, Momo came with his family at the age of three after fleeing their homeland of the Comoros Islands. Azmarino left and spent many years citizen-less in countries including Jordan, Italy and Switzerland.
