Melbourne indie-punks Dental Plan have released their music video for Can't Get What You Want.
Filmed over an afternoon of fun in the inner north of Melbourne, the band take in the sights and sounds of their neighbourhood playing video games, bowling, and hitting the pub, shot in glorious low-def Super 8 film by Nick Manuell.
The live footage is taken from the single release show for Can’t Get What You Want a couple of days earlier at The Retreat in Brunswick using a 90’s style Camcorder & Super 8 film to fit the grungy bittersweet nature of the track.

Vocalist/songwriter Niam Hegarty says, “The video is a moment in time, a great couple of days in the life of the band.”
Cant Get What You Want is a soaring indie-punk anthem, where the band showcase their influences such as The Menzingers, Militarie Gun, and Magic Dirt, with a dual male/female vocal-driven, fuzzed-out banger only possible through a life well lived. The classic loud/soft dynamic produces a powerful indie punk sing-a-long encompassing themes of loss, determination & hope.
Vocalist Niam Hegarty shares of the track, “This is a break-up song, written at a crossroads in my life, I had a hell of a dark period – took a long walk – when I arrived home I wrote this song on an acoustic guitar with the lyrics and music fully formed, it took only a few minutes and we had a tune, I hope it holds that raw emotion. Originally, we had intended to record this acoustically, but it sounded so great with Jo’s vocals and the full fuzzed-out guitar sound we stuck with that for the record.”
The third and final single from the group’s debut album, Raw Nerve, sets the tone for a powerful alt/punk album. Dental Plan play The Old Bar this Friday June 5th supporting Raised As Wolves, with Raging Hormones & Baby Shower.
The debut album Raw Nerve is out July 19th digitally and a limited edition LP will be pressed on Blood Red Vinyl. Find out more here.
