Daddy Cool and Ed Nimmervoll To Be Inducted At The Age Music Victoria Awards

The awards, which traditionally draw 80,000 votes from the public, are held during Melbourne Music Week at 170 Russell (formerly Billboard) from 8.30 – 11pm.

Daddy Cool will finish off the night with an hour-long set. Singer and front-man Ross Wilson said, “As you know, although we’re all four still working musicians, Daddy Cool reforms only for very special occasions. We do get offers to play now and then, but we don’t tour and we don’t need to. This is not only a prestigious award – it’s a fun thing, getting together with other musicians, people saying nice things about us and having a few free drinks at the end of the night. That sounds like fun and that appeals to us.  Daddy Cool has always been about having fun.”

Daddy Cool were a phenomenon in the ‘70s. their debut album Daddy Who Daddy Cool the first local rock album to sell over 100,000 copies. Eagle Rock which continues to top polls on great Australian songs, charted in the US. A massive fan, Elton John wrote his own Crocodile Rock in response.

Ed Nimmervoll emerged as editorand chart historian on magazines as Go-Set and founded the long-running weekly Juke and the HowlSpace website. He also authored books as Friday On My Mind, a year to year look back at the Australian charts, and Renee Geyer’s biography.

Hosting this year’s awards is Henry Wagons. Guests include Russell Morris, Stonefield, and Jess Cornelius (Teeth & Tongue) performing with musical director Pete Luscombe (RocKwiz) with the EG Allstars. Davey Lane will also do a Jim Keays tribute. Tickets go on sale on Monday August 4 via 170Russell.com.
