ACE OF SPADES PAY TRIBUTE TO LEMMY

If you’re like me you probably spent a good chunk of Sunday morning either at home in your undies or maybe at Cherry Bar: either way you were watching Lemmy’s funeral being broadcast live on YouTube. Motorhead tribute band Ace Of Spades performed at Cherry after the screening. They’ll also be at the Inkerman Hotel in St Kilda East on Friday January 15 (free entry – and it’s my local so I might see you there) then at Yah Yah’s in Fitzroy on Saturday January 16 ($7 entry).

ARCH ENEMY & ZAKK SABBATH AT NAMM

I know quite a few folks who are heading over to California for the NAMM Show later this month – the annual industry-only trade show where most of the world’s musical instrument companies unveil their new gear for the year. So this is for you: on Saturday January 22 at the Grove of Anaheim catch the Schecter and Seymour Duncan NAMM Party featuring Arch Enemy and Zakk Sabbath. Zakk Sabbath is Zakk Wylde’s Black Sabbath cover band. I’ll be there and I can’t wait for this one. Tickets are not for sale but if you’re going to NAMM, keep an eye on the various supporting exhibitors who will have tickets to hand out.

MAKE THEM SUFFER SIGN INTERNATIONAL DEAL WITH RISE RECORDS

Perth metal band Make Them Suffer have been riding high since the release of the critically acclaimed Old Souls record halfway through 2015. Produced with the assistance of a who’s who of modern metal; Jason Suecoff (The Black Dahlia Murder, Trivium), Joey Sturgis (Emmure, Asking Alexandria), Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus) and Roland Lim (Neverbloom, I Am Zero), it netted the band a career high ARIA chart debut and continuous triple j support across multiple programs. The band have now extended that reach; signing a deal with leading independent label Rise Records for outside of Australia in addition to their existing partnership with metal powerhouse Roadrunner Records at home. They also have Australian headline dates this January, including a stop at the Unify festival, with support from US act The Plot In You and handpicked local support acts sourced from an overwhelmingly popular competition run by Hysteria Magazine. Here are the Victorian dates:

20 Jan – Barwon Club, Geelong VIC (18+) with Athenas Wake and Nemesium

22 Jan – The Loft, Warrnambool, Vic (18+) with The Ascended and Against Our Pride

23 Jan – The Evelyn, Melbourne, Vic (18+) with Earth Ender, Despised and Arkive

24 Jan – Masonic Hall, Wodonga, Vic (All Ages) with Advocates, Atmostfear and Cut To The Chase
