Creepshow Halloween Festival: Chaos Divine

One of the headline bands is awesome Perth progressive/melodic metal act Chaos Divine. Guitarist Ryan Felton, speaking from his home in the western capital, is very much looking forward to playing the festival for the first time, and tells they will be getting into the spirit of the night in a pretty big way.

“Yeah, (Creepshow) should be good,” he enthuses. “(We’re) really excited to be playing some new songs that we’ve been working on, and just get back over there, ‘cause it’s been a while since we’ve been back over east. The last time was a bit over a year ago now. We’ve been writing songs, but we really wanted to get back over there so we don’t lose touch with our fans over there.”

He is a little coy about how the band will be dressing up for the show, but promises some surprises for Creepshow punters. “We’re keeping it a bit of a secret,” he says. “But we’ve kind of got our own inspired costumes, not the typical zombie or vampire type costumes that people will probably be expecting. It’s something a little bit different.

“It’ll be equally as scary, but not scary in the way you’re probably thinking!” He laughs. You guys aren’t ‘nuding up’ are you? “Na, we’re not going to be nude,” he laughs again. “We’re not going to embarrass ourselves too much, but it should be fun.”

Unsurprisingly, it may be the band’s frontman who may taking things the furthest, as far as going all out for the vibe of the festival is concerned. “I’d say Dave the singer will probably go the furthest, in as far as dressing up goes, and making sure he gets into the theme,” he reveals. “He’s got something pretty cool lined up to wear onstage.”

It’s been over two years since the band’s last album, The Human Connection. Ryan tells us that the band is quite painstaking and fussy in their writing process, but promises that work on the next album is progressing slowly but very surely. The next Chaos Divine record should be seeing the light of day within 12 months.

“It’s taken a little while to get everything written, we’re one of those bands that tend to write a bit slowly. We sort of go back and forth on a lot of ideas, to make sure we really nail a song. But yeah, it’s been coming along well, we’re about 90% there with the writing, so hopefully we should start to demo, and do pre-production work hopefully later next month. And then try to get into the studio as soon as we can after that.”

So possibly mid to late next year for a release? “I’d say so, yeah,” he concurs. “We’ll try to do it as fast as we can, without compromising anything. These things just take time, metal bands don’t put out albums like other genres, but hopefully mid next year.”
