When was CouchWarriors born? In 2006 Brendon “Loki” Watson and Brendan “Zan” Tonkin formed CouchWarriors as an informal community group running monthly events. In 2009 CouchWarriors ran its first national scale major tournament

How does CouchWarriors energise the gaming community? CouchWarriors is the hub for the Fighting  Game Community (FGC) in Melbourne, running monthly ranking battle tournaments and providing support to other events with equipment, tournament organisation expertise and social media outreach.

What is the most popular tournament? By far and away the most popular tournament was our Major last year, Battle Arena Melbourne 8, or BAM for short. We had over 800 attendees, and had many international competitors as being part of the Capcom Pro Tour.

What does the gaming community value? The spirit of friendly competition is something that a lot of our members value – the opportunity to compete with friends to see who is the best is an exciting experience. We appreciate the social nature of our events – many players have spent decades in this community and have built lifelong friends.

Tell us a little bit about your upcoming event? 2017 is the year of Big Bam! BAM will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). With a venue three times the size of last year and running three days, BAM9 will be a gaming conglomeration featuring FGC tournament hype, casuals and exhibitions, merchant and vendor booths, cosplay competition, potential hands on access to upcoming games, and more.
