The event features multiple stages running across the weekend, including a main stage hosting Q&A panels with film and television guests, as well as the Australian Championships of Cosplay, one of the country’s biggest costume competitions.
There’s also a Workshop Theatre for community-led panels on topics like drawing, photography and crafts, and a Music and Entertainment Stage featuring live pop culture performances, dancing and lip sync battles that are open for registration.
Cosplay is a massive part of the Oz Comic-Con experience, and this year is no exception.
Beyond the championship and competition, there are cosplay parades running both days, including a kids’ cosplay parade, plus a dedicated Cosplay Central space with free photography sessions from local cosplay photographers. If you’re just turning up in casual cosplay, the cosplay meetups in The District are worth checking out for group photos and general chaos.
On the gaming front, the Australian Esports League is bringing a free-play gaming zone and esports tournaments, while retro gaming, tabletop gaming (with a library of over 40 games), Magic: The Gathering learn-to-play sessions, and local TTRPG groups running one-shot campaigns are all also on the cards. There’s even a Just Dance stage for free play all weekend.
Artist Alley celebrates independent creators working across comics, manga, sci-fi, fantasy and beyond, where original commissions, prints and homewares are all available for purchase. The Comics Lounge, supported by Kings Comics, offers a chill reading space stocked with comics and manga, plus industry panels with Australian comic artists, writers and publishers.
Rounding things out are some genuinely left-field inclusions: a scavenger hunt, show bingo, a LGBTQIA+ CommUnity Space, a scribble wall, a trading post for collectors, and Dr Pickles Tattoo Alley’s mystery tattoo hole experience, if you’re feeling particularly bold.
