To celebrate its 150th year, it’s taken ownership of one of Italian High Renaissance’s most famous artists, Correggio.
Despite missing out on a spot in the Mutant Ninja Turtles, Correggio was one of the most influential 16th century artists, placing alongside the likes of Michelangelo and Da Vinci.
Correggio’s painting, Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist was purchased by the NGV for a high-flying price of $5.2 million.
