The festival has announced massive drawcards that include Kanye West, Soundgarden, Battles, Frenzal Rhomb, My Chemical Romance and, most interestingly, Parkway Drive. One can’t help but wonder whether Parkway will get the recognition they deserve and a main stage set or whether their brand of tunage might be a bit too much for the kids populating the D-barrier these days. I’m just assuming they’re kids because I can’t think of any other variation of human being that might believe that queuing for the privilege of getting kicked in the head could be a valid use of their time. Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see Soundwave Festival’s ‘rebuttal’ this week. Festival organized AJ Maddah – who has long preferred the unconventional and more personal approach of linking information via his feverishly followed Twitter account – said this weekend that the announcement should take place at the end of this week and that it will feature “1 major announcement with 60 bands and then a supplementary announcement of 10-15 bands in December”.

Danananananakroyd have announced their split, and journalists and sub-editors everywhere have breathed a collective sigh of relief. The band announced that they want to make sure “we’re never compromising or giving anything less than 100% and at this juncture of our collective lives it makes sense to go out with a band”. They’ll finish a tour of the UK and then call it quits.

The Get Up Kids have been forced to assure fans that they are not breaking up after a recent Facebook post confused their fans and press alike. The post announced that members of the band would be “splitting off to do some different projects”, but they insist this does not mean the end of TGUK.

Rival Schools have lost guitarist Ian Love after he decided to leave the band. Rivals will still go on, with plans for a new album and several big tours in the works.

Sydney’s The Mission In Motion have announced an upcoming tour in support of their new single Control (available to stream on their Facebook page). They’ll play at the Northcote Social Club on Thursday December 1. Tickets are all available now.

US band After The Fall (not to be confused with the Aussie act of the same name) will be touring Australia’s East Coast this year, and bringing along Melbourne’s Anchors for the ride. Pencil in Saturday November 26 at The Gasometer.

Canada’s Sights & Sounds are fleeing the prospect of a northern winter and playing a massive run of shows down south this December. Most commonly recognised as Andrew Nuefeld of Comeback Kid’s side project, the band will be playing some intimate venues in Victoria. Catch them on Tuesday December 13 at Ballarat’s Bended Elbow or Thursday December 15 at Next.

German metal band Destruction have announced an Australian tour this November alongside Mortal Sin and Melbourne bane 4arm. They’ll play in Melbourne on November 4 at The Prince Bandroom.

Ska Nation have announced a huge Skalloween event over three days for the end of this month. October 29 boasts an all-ages affair at Fairbank Café in Clayton and featuring The Planet Smashers, Area 7, The Resignators, The Bennies, The Kujo Kings, Loonee Tunes and The Funaddicts. Corner Hotel on October 30 features The Planet Smashers with Porkers, Los Capitanes, The Resignators, Jobstopper and The Kujo Kings. Finally Cup Eve at CBD Nightclub will feature Lotek, The Bennies, The Funaddicts, Loonee Tunes, Kujo Kings, Tabasco Junkies, Menage A Ska and The Furrows.
