Soundwave sidewave’s are rolling out a little slower and in a more calculated fashion than previous years. Last week just the one show was announced when it was revealed that Hatebreed will team up with Cro-Mags, Biohazard and for a show at The HiFi Bar on Wednesday February 29. Tickets are available this Thursday January 12.
Killswitch Engage have ceremoniously ditched their vocalist Howard Jones last week. The band announced that they would “continue on without Howard Jones as the lead singer of Killswitch Engage. We love Howard and are thankful for the nine years that we’ve had him in the band”. Jones joined Killswitch in 2002 when their previous singer quit the band via email. Despite the band not wishing to discuss the details behind the split, Jones recently shed a little light saying he has been “battling with some personal issues…One of the low points being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The whole experience definitely put a scare in me…I couldn’t get excited about the new album.”
Tyre Swans Family Picnic is GO! One of the most delightfully family friendly days of the year comes to Edinburgh Gardens again on Sunday January 22.Donnie Dureau, Darren Gibson and Jamie Hay will perform acoustic track from 2pm, and this year they’ve invited Wil Wagner of The Smith Street Band to join in. A new band has been formed featuring Jay from Bedouin Soundclash and Wade MacNeil (Gallows, formerly of Alexisonfire). The Deadcoast has been in the works for a while and the ensemble will soon start recording music together. They plan to “make a collection of sailor songs from the road”.
Speaking of collaborations, Anberlin drummer Nate Young will join forces with Underoath guitarist Tim McTagu and Reed Murray of Marksmen to form new ensemble, Carrollhood. Their new track is currently streaming over at carrollhood.net.
Much loved old school band RX Bandits have reformed and released a new track which is pretty rubbish, so it’s nice to hear thatBoysetsfireplan to back their reformation up with a new album. Their last album was 2006’s Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years. Cross your fingers that it’s not a stinker.
Canberra band Hands Like Houses have followed in Dream On Dreamer’s footsteps by joining huge US label Rise Records. The label will release their debut album Ground Dweller this year. The band gushed “It’s so good to be believed in”.
