Clare’s bounding adult contemporary pop has returned from a brief sojourn into synth-fuelled electro to a more organic sound. Thin Skin, the first single from the portentously titled album The Winter I Chose Happiness, is a hearty assemblage of skittering drums and booming claps, with Clare’s voice a constant swoon, sailing in between. It’s a lovely warm sound but wordy and sanctimonious, as usual. Per this song, Clare has just discovered that happiness is a choice and being sensitive is a virtue. Some radical thinking there.
