The concept behind Castlemaine Record Fair is simple: pull together independent sellers and record shops in one spot and let the digging begin. Vinylrules Music has taken the format all over the state — Dromana, Woodend, Warrnambool — and now it’s Castlemaine’s turn.
Shedshaker Taproom is the perfect backdrop, pairing an impressive record haul with great drinks and food for a genuinely cracking day out.
It’s also Shedshaker Brewing’s first time hosting a record fair, and they’re clearly keen to make it count. Whether you’re hunting a first pressing from an obscure jazz outfit or picking up the latest mainstream release, there’s no judgement; just good music and good vibes. Genres, decades, formats, it’s all fair game.
To round out the day, Melbourne indie jazz trio Southern Duck will take the stage from 5pm, so you can flip through crates all afternoon and then settle in for a live set with a cold one in hand.
Admission details haven’t been listed, so it’s worth checking ahead, but either way, 10,000 records and a live band make for a pretty hard combination to pass up.
