Lead singer and guitarist of iconic UK punk band the Buzzcocks has passed away from a suspected heart attack overnight.
Shelley founded the Buzzcocks in the late 70s alongside co-founder and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto. The band have released a vast number of studio albums and EPs. For their 40th anniversary, the four-piece were reissuing their first two albums, Another Music In A Different Kitchen and Love Bites.
According to the BBC, Shelley died at his residence in Estonia. In a statement on Facebook, the Buzzcocks confirmed the news, praising Shelley for his contribution to the global music scene.
“Pete’s music has inspired generations of musicians over a career that spanned five decades and with his band and as a solo artist, he was held in the highest regard by the music industry and by his fans around the world.”
