Melbourne’s iconic sports and music venue, Rod Laver Arena, is inviting Melburnians young and old to share their fondest memories.
This sudden rush of sentimentality is all part of a celebration for the arena’s 30th birthday, with participants hoping to get their hands on a Rod Laver Arena golden ticket. The ticket gets them a double pass into any RLA event next year, so a lot is on the table.
The competition is tough and there are some incredible stories out there. One Instagrammer has shared some vintage shots of a Backstreet Boys concert back in their glory days. The baggy jeans and chains are a sight to behold, a true testament of what we have moved beyond. The Insta user said she was lucky enough to be gifted a tennis racquet from BSB’s Brian Littrell.
“He looked directly at me and leaned over to hand me [a tennis racquet]. The girl next to me tried to grab it out of my hand, but I refused to let it go,” she said.
“Someone offered me $100 for it, but [I] said no. Still hangs on my bedroom wall to this day.”
