While this year’s Brunswick Music Festival will be shorter than usual, spanning ten days rather than its usual two-week run, it certainly hasn’t skimped on its offerings.

After last year’s BMF was sadly cut short due to COVID-19, news that the 3056 mainstay would be back in 2021 was met by punters with open arms. Now, the program for this year’s festival has arrived at last and it is a knock-out.
The festival’s new outdoor venue at Gilpin Park will play host to a bunch of shows curated by the likes of Crown Ruler, Waving at Trains, Milk! Records and Our Golden Friend featuring DJ JNETT, East Brunswick All Girls Choir, Elizabeth, Good Morning, Kee’ahn, Loose Tooth, RVG and loads more.
BMF’s huge spread of collaborators also spans Bad Apples, Flightless Records, Mistletone Records, HopeStreet Recordings with College of Knowledge and Port Fairy Folk Festival, resulting in performances by Alice Skye, Cash Savage and The Last Drinks, Emma Donovan and The Putbacks, BARKAA, HEXDEBT, Kutcha Edwards, Leah Senior, Spike Fcuk, Angie McMahon and Mo’Ju.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Brunswick Music Festival without celebrating the suburb’s assorted live music venues so, as part of this year’s 3056 Venues program, Bar Oussou, the newly re-opened Brunswick Ballroom, Cross Street Music Hall, Noisy Ritual, Ollie’s Pizza Parlour, Rubix Warehouse, Small Time, Tempo Rubato, The B. East, The Charles Weston Hotel, The Edinburgh Castle Hotel, The Jazzlab, The Moldy Fig and The Retreat Hotel will all be curating lineups across the festival’s ten days.
There’ll be plenty of free gigs on offer, too, including pop-up Sydney Road shows from acts including Ausecuma Beats, Petal Lake (Mindy Meng Wang & Daniel Jenatsch) and Zoë Fox and the Rocket Clocks, as well as appearances from Pinch Points and Tender Buttons between the shelves at Brunswick’s iconic art deco library.
Plus, there will be album launches by Hachiku, June Jones and Joelistics at Howler, professional development sessions in partnership with Milk! Records, Small Time, funded by Creative Victoria, and so much more.
