Brazilian legends, Berlin hitmakers and British new ravers: The Prince Bandroom bangs this October

words by kaya martin

This month, the Prince has sourced some of the most exciting artists from across the globe to perform in its iconic bandroom.

From genre pioneers to buzzy party-starters, the calendar is packed with late nights and euphoric performers. Music will blast from the high-quality sound system, lights will flash to the beat and punters will gather to boogie down until last call.

As well as the international hitmakers on the program this month, there will also be a big bash honouring Aussie music culture, with hometown hits taking over for one glorious night.

For anyone heading to the Prince this month, keep in mind that there’s some construction going on, and access will be via the Level 1 Carpark (for now). With that in mind, here’s what’s happening in the month of October.

Check out our gig guide here.

A cheeky nod to Aussie anthems or a twist on local-flavoured sounds, Land Down Under promises a night tempered in homegrown spirit, full of singalongs, covers, and a crowd that knows all the words. Honouring the era when Aussie music took over the world, expect to hear hits from AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, Men At Work, Midnight Oil, INXS and plenty more. Bringing together equal parts nostalgia and national pride, this one’s for the true battlers among us.

Irish duo Le Boom bring high-energy dance tunes with spoken word flourishes, ideal for late nights and sweaty floors. Coming up from the underground scene, their sets have been turning heads in Europe and the UK, so we’re very lucky to see them in Australia so soon. They’re certain to deliver euphoric synths, cheeky lyrical moments, and plenty of momentum.

Calling all the sad boys, skinny jean lovers, and bop-heads: Emo Diva is throwing an emo/pop mashup party to launch their new mashup EP. DJs will spin stuff from the modern era as well as throwback classics from artists like My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Paramore and more (plus they’ll even sprinkle pop crossover hits for good measure). It’ll be a vibey, nostalgic night you won’t want to skip.

Azymuth & Sabrina Malheiros

Brazilian jazz-funk legends Azymuth hit the stage with nu-bossa star Sabrina Malheiros in tow, bringing their legendary “samba doido” grooves to Melbourne. They were last in town in 2022, where they performed three unforgettable back-to-back shows at the Night Cat. With a career spanning 50 years, they’re well attuned to the stage and will dish out tight rhythm sections, sublime improvisations, and tropical vibes even in the southern chill. If you dig musical virtuosity and sultry grooves, this will be a highlight.
