Billy Bragg announces solo tour with Jen Cloher and Wil Wagner

Billy Bragg will be hosting three evenings in Meeniyan and Castlemaine, which make up his only Aussie headlining performances for 2018 — aside from a hotly anticipated set at Merideth. Whether you’ve been a fan since reading this article or since his ’80s pseudonym, Spy Vs Spy, Bragg will be playing tunes spanning his entire career.

When this absolute unit rolls into Meeniyan, Melbourne’s most emotive wordsmith, Jen Cloher, will take to the stage to provide support for two shows. Bragg will then take his tunes to Castlemaine, with support from Will Wagner – yes, front-man of The Smith Street Band Will Wagner.

To say Bragg has had a tumultuous life and career is an understatement; he dabbled in punk before joining the British Army in ’81, then buying himself out of that to pursue a living built on his solo electric guitar.

Throughout his time as a recording artist, Bragg has remained a staunch political activist. He continues to engage with his fans online via Facebook and Twitter, and he prides himself on having made enemies out of “craven politicians, inhumane corporations, plus assorted racists, fascists, bullies, reactionaries and people with floppy fringes.”

Seeing as this walking legend of the scene will only be playing three headline shows for us Aussies in 2018 – and extremely intimate ones at that – we recommend you jump on this opportunity to see the “big-nosed bard from Barking” immediately.
