Melbourne rockers Bigger than Jesus are returning to the newly reopened Espy for the launch of their long-awaited album, One for the Road.
Back in the 90s, BTJ’s gigs were a sight to behold. According to the band, wooden crosses were burned on stage and ceilings were destroyed. While that’s less likely to happen in this day and age, the counter-culture attitude behind the act remains strong.
BTJ’s performance will be supported by a huge number of acts, including pop rock duo Pollyman, the Invictus Trio, and DJs Mary Mihelakos and James Young. The album launch will also double as a farewell to the band’s late drummer Craig Whitelock, who passed away in September. For the launch, Paul Foenander will be stepping into Whitelock’s shoes.
It was unclear whether BTJ would play at the Espy following staffing changes at the venue. In the end, the peace was kept and the show would go on.
