Having grown up listening to hip-hop and rap since he was a kid – Eminem was among his early favourites – his journey to speaking his truth through music was not always an easy path. “Through the years I’ve been doubted to extreme lengths and I feel when I was first getting into music, that doubt was at its most prominent,” Big Kidd says.
Composing and recording his own songs since the age of 15 alongside his older brother Adrian – Big Kidd’s music has gone from being recorded on an Android phone in his bedroom to a professional studio.
After meeting Uncool Sam – a studio engineer and producer at a studio in Perth – he began recording professionally at 18, leading them to create a plethora of tracks including Pain, They Don’t Understand, I Don’t Trust and Gimme the Bag.

First released on YouTube in 2019, Burnin’ is a song close to Big Kidd’s heart. “That song has reached a lot of people,” he says. “I feel people can really relate to it as I’m speaking from the heart, everything I say in my music is 100% real.”
With unprocessed and honest vocals, Burnin’ is a reflection of the blaze of emotions that Big Kidd has experienced throughout his life, with evocative lyrics over a melancholic beat:
“I am burnin’ and there’s no putting me out,
I always felt that way since I was a young child
and I always just done my best to try and smile
but deep down I always felt so sad and wild”
Reflecting many facets in his life, particularly his relationship with his grandmother, Burnin’ is an emotionally vulnerable and fiercely relatable and original track.
