One of our many annual music festivals, Falls boasts a hell of a line-up this year. This year’s incarnation includes the wondrous likes of Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, The Roots,  London Grammar, MGMT, Violent Soho, Hiatus Kaiyote, Neil Finn, Rufus, Smith Street Band, Pond, The Cat Empire, Owl Eyes, The Murlocs, The Preatures, Big Scary, Chet Faker, Gossling, Emma Louise and many many more. Tickets for Lorne are unfortunately sold out, but if you’re quick, you may be able to score some for Marion Bay.

Ding Dong Lounge – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

This New Year’s Eve, Ding Dong Lounge is hosting the NYE bender to end all NYE benders. Things are gonna get loose at Dingers with seven-headed garage psychedelic collective King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard headlining the show, with support from The Murlocs, Bad//Dreems, and The Love Junkies. Later, the Midnight Run & Tone Deaf DJ Crew will be spinning all your favourite party jams to keep you shakin’ your booty until dawn. Don’t miss this spectacular bender.

Prince Bandroom – Midnight Juggernauts

Midnight Juggernauts

Futuristic psychedelic aural sensation Midnight Juggernauts will headline this year’s NYE shindig at Prince Bandroom. But the big bang doesn’t stop there. The hometown favourites will also be joined by Northeast Party House, Naysayer & Gilsun (DJ set), Roland Tings, Cassius Select, Boogie Set and a few more treasures. This will definitely be a night to remember.

The Espy – Something For Kate

New Year’s Eve at The Espy has been a long running tradition. A St Kilda sunset, packed stage, beer in hand, looking for that countdown kiss. Celebrate the birth of 2014 with some of Melbourne’s finest and most loved rock legends – Something For Kate, Bodyjar, Dallas Crane, Kingswood, The Basics, The Delta Riggs, Eagle & the Worm and many more. The Reverence Hotel – Mid Youth Crisis

It’s time to get frisky at The Reverence Hotel this New Year’s Eve with their sweet line-up of punk-rock artists. Featuring the Rise of The Rat, who pay tribute to the guitar harmonies of the ’70s and ’80s, Stockades, a rising post-hardcore band right out of Melbourne, Tigers, and thrash punks: Join The Amish. Mid Youth Crisis will lead the bill with their brand of melodic curveball punk. Other highlights of the night will include DJs and Mexican food all night. So grab your sombrero and head down to The Reverence Hotel if you dare. Tickets available through the venue website, be quick, they’re selling fast.

The Penny Black – No Zu

No Zu

Come on down in your craziest fluo outfit and take part in the spectacular NYE event at The Penny Black. No Zu will be shining in the band room, supported by two of the best crazy DJs, Post Percy and Tiger Funk. At the back there is the best of the best with the wildest party hip hop DJs in Melbourne. Entry is free and pizzas are a mere $4 until 9pm. Enjoy.

Lucky Coq and Bimbo Deluxe – No Frills (NYE and NYD)

Opening their doors from midday on New Year’s Eve, Lucky Coq will be your destination of choice to avoid any of the nonsense associated with New Year’s Eve. The amateur drunks, the inflated prices, the inevitable anti-climax. Wrapping up at 3am, you’ll have just enough time to get home, get some shut eye and then make your way to the north to do it all over again at Bimbo Deluxe. Opening from midday and going through to the wee hours, it’ll be the same concept and same prices but a different year. With discounted drinks, no-name DJs and a free BBQ, how can you consider going anywhere else?

Rubix Funhouse – Hedflux

Rubix are set to cap off a massive year with a huge NYE party. Indoor half pipe for the skaters, outside seating, burgers, beers and beats from 3pm – 3am pumping the best of the best glitch hop, breaks, drum and bass, live electronic, trap, hip hop, funk and soul. With UK heavyweight Hedflux headlining, it’s going to be big.

Trak – Pacha

The past two years, Rogue Entertainment has given Melbourne’s gay scene the most amazing New Year’s Night Parties at Trak. This year they are back, bigger and better with Rock City New Year’s Day Night, over 3 levels. Joining this huge DJ lineup is Australia’s new Pop Princess and ARIA winner – Samantha Jade. Tickets have sold out like hot cakes in the past so don’t be lazy, pick one up today through Ticketmaster.

The world’s most over rated night of partying, New Year’s Eve, is fast approaching. Quit thinking you are going to be able to get all your mates in one spot, quit thinking paying $350 to camp in a field with $8 cans of shit warm beer and crappy radio bands will be worth it, quit thinking it has to be the best night of your entire life. Just go to the Old Bar with a few mates, drink reasonably priced cold beer, have a dance to some sweet bands and quit over complicating plans to an epic night that most likely will not run to plan anyways. Headlining is Clowns, along with Apart From This and Summer Blood.

Let Them Eat Cake

After a killer debut this year Let Them Eat Cake is back with another huge lineup for 2014. The 2014 bill will feature Bicep, Cyril Hahn, Digital, DJ Koze, Dusky, EPROM, Estere, Floating Points, Hypnotech, James Holden, Julio Bashmore, Kode9, LTJ Bukem, Mark Pritchard, Soul Clap, TOKiMONSTA and Wolf + Lamb with a killer local linuep. It all goes down on Wednesday January 1 at Werribee Mansion.

The Union Hotel – Raised By Eagles

Get yourself and all your frivolous friends down to the Union Hotel this NYE for a night of great music and booze at one of Melbourne’s most iconic venues. Opening the evening will be dexterous kids The Prayerbabies with their entertaining mix of gospel, blues and ’80s classics. Next up is the lyrical genius of Charles Jenkins & The Zhivagos, followed by the alt-country might of Raised By Eagles. Be there or be square. Yeah, that’s right.

The Retreat – Bitter Sweet Kicks

With prizes for the 20 best costumes and an early kick off, the Retreat Hotel’s New Year’s glam rock party is gonna be off the hook. Wild Turkey rock the front bar at 7.30pm, followed by gritty garage rockers Bitter Sweet Kicks kicking up dust on the main stage at 9.30pm. DJ Jeff Leppard till 3am.

The Toff In Town – Zanzibar Chanel

After a year dominating stages across Australia – dance floor favourites Zanzibar Chanel return to their home ground for a very special NYE show with a bunch of new material along with all your favourites. Andras Fox will be laying down a set of esoteric beats, Michael Ozone will be fly kicking his way into 2014 and our disco sisters Misty Nights take a break from the Toff’s dance floor to join the crew behind the decks for an all out disco diva spectacular, sewn together with a silver lining courtesy of Andee Frost.

Bar Open – Lamarama

The 12-legged Melbourne monster collective, Lamarama, is a stylistic odyssey. Fusing psychedelic groove rock with quirky storytelling and Floyd-esque build ups, this is certainly a unique breed of music. Don’t miss out when they grace Bar Open for this year’s last hurrah. Joining them will be the David Adams Sextet Trio. It’s free, where else could you possibly be?

The Tote – Drunk Mums

Celebrate in style at The Tote with four banging rock’n’roll bands. One of the best and most mental bands in Melbourne, Drunk Mums will be joined on the night by The Gooch Palms, Skyways are Highways, Contrast and many more. There’s a BBQ from 8pm. and an even bigger smorgasbord of tunes to follow. Don’t miss out on seeing some of Australia’s best rock’n’roll outfits.

Animals Dancing

Animals Dancing are starting off 2014 with their third annual New Year’s Day party. Headliners Big Strick, Tom Of England, Willie Burns, Cos/Mes, Chida, Lovefingers, Suzanne Kraft and Jonny Nash will be joined by a killer local lineup, featuring Tornado Wallace, Otologic, Andee Frost, Andras Fox, Roland Tings, Sleep D, Totebagz, Kris Baha, Laila, Peace Pipe and Jezadin. Make sure you don’t miss out on Wednesday January 1 and head to 135-141 Rosslyn St, West Melbourne.
